career transition coaching
Career transition coaching is a dedicated space to think carefully about change, uncertainty, and future direction. Whether you’re considering a new role, changing profession, returning to work, or questioning your current path, coaching gives you room to step back and think about what comes next in a deliberate way.
why now
People often come to this kind of coaching once their current situation no longer feels quite right.
You might be considering a change, drawn towards something different, facing redundancy, approaching retirement, returning after time away, or questioning whether your current role still reflects what matters to you. Sometimes the change is chosen. Sometimes it arrives through circumstances outside your control. Either way, transitions raise real questions about identity, direction, and what the future might hold.
Career decisions are rarely just practical. They usually touch on who we are, what we value, and how we make sense of ourselves through our work.
my approach
A lot of career coaching centres on planning, job-searching, and interview preparation. That’s not where my interest lies.
With more than 25 years as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and an EMCC Senior Practitioner Coach, across psychology, psychotherapy, coaching, and supervision, what I’m actually interested in isn’t identifying your next role, it’s helping you think properly about the choice itself and what it means for you: identity, relationships, and priorities, not only which job comes next.
the work
Conversations often cover uncertainty, confidence, identity, professional direction, values, or concerns about what the future holds.
Sometimes it’s one specific decision. At other times it’s a broader look at how you want your work and life to develop.
Transitions can be unsettling because they involve leaving something familiar for something not yet known. What tends to help is examining what each option genuinely represents to you, not just weighing pros and cons on paper.
a good fit
This suits people who want more than career advice or a personality test. Many of the people who seek this kind of coaching are experienced professionals who want a dedicated space to think carefully about change, identity, and the choice in front of them.
It’s particularly useful if you recognise that a career decision has implications well beyond the professional, for your relationships, your lifestyle, and your sense of purpose.

working with people, not job titles
A single Focused Coaching Session often suits one specific transition or choice. Ongoing Psychologically Informed Coaching suits working through a longer period of change. A regular Thinking Space gives you a standing point to reflect as the transition unfolds.
All sessions take place online via Zoom, so you can work with me wherever you are, choosing on fit rather than location.
Common Questions
What is career transition coaching?
A dedicated space to think about change, uncertainty, and professional direction, useful whether you’re considering a new role, changing career, returning to work, or exploring what comes next.
Do I need to know what I want to do next before starting?
No. Many people come to coaching precisely because they’re uncertain. It can help you explore possibilities and understand what matters to you before making a significant decision.
Can this help if I feel stuck between options?
Yes. Often the difficulty isn’t a lack of options but understanding what each one really represents, and what’s influencing the decision. Coaching gives you space to explore that properly.
What's the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching stays focused on the decision in front of you and the direction you’re choosing. Therapy exists to address psychological distress directly, a different aim. My training as a psychologist shapes how I listen, but coaching remains a distinct service, centred on where you’re heading.
